As an employee of the IATSE I am provided with medical insurance. It's a very good thing. A few weeks ago I had a hearing test, which showed some deterioration of the hearing in my right ear. The Doctor noted a flaw in the stapes bone in the middle ear and said surgery to implant a titanium stapes would probably improve my hearing significantly. On Tuesday, I had the surgery. It's too early to tell if my hearing will improve, but I'm pretty optimistic (yes, it's a habit of mine!).
And I'm deeply grateful that a $20,000 medical bill is covered.
It makes me sad that vfx artists generally do not enjoy similar medical coverage.
And, I will continue to do what I can to change that.
